I have been an outspoken advocate for women in ministry and the equality of women in the church for as long as I have been in ministry. At the church plant I was involved with, when we started, egalitarianism and affirmation of women in ministry and the full use of their gifts was a non-negotiable for us.

For the record, my position on women in ministry is based entirely on my best reading of the totality of scripture. I am convinced that churches that deny women the ability to use their God-given gifts of leadership and teaching are not just hurting these women, but the whole of Body of Christ. I have had the privilege of working with and learning from some of the most amazing women leaders — and the church would be weakened without the full use of their gifts.

Dan Johnson, the CEO of the Next Leadership Association (of which I am a member and am ordained through) has written a provocative piece on his blog about why the church needs to get on board with issues of equality and justice.

Dan calls on the church to step up and lead on this critical issue. I wholeheartedly agree and hope you will take the time to read his post… then come back and let me know what you think.

Here is his post… LINK.

 1.
Thanks for the reply.

The point about my statement (1) is well-taken. The issue deserves a lot of good discussion. Often, what I see , is that folks will talk past each other by using terms that mean something different in their respective circles. I think that clearly parsing the underpinning thoughts in the use of terms (2) could greatly contribute to better understanding by pushing the circles to define each other properly, accurately and in cultural-historical context.

Peace =)
