Lt. Dan Choi will be speaking at UCONN today at 4:30PM at the Student Union Theater. The event is free and open to the public. I am hoping to make the event.
Here is the info on the event:
SUBOG, Asian American Heritage Observance & GLBT Awareness Month present…….
LT. DAN CHOI – “Truth & Consequences: One Man’s Fight to Openly Serve His Country”
Arabic Linguist. Iraq Veteran. West Point Graduate. Infantry Officer. Gay….Fired….and Fighting Back! Notified of his honorable discharge from the army under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy after 11 years of service, he has decided to fight back for all veterans so unjustly treated.
On his website he proclaims: From the first moment we put on our nation’s uniform and swore our solemn oath, we committed ourselves to fight for freedom and justice; to defend our constitution and put the needs of others before our own. This is not an oath I intend to abandon. Doing so…would be an unequivocal moral dereliction that tarnishes the honor of the uniform and insults the meaning of America.
Reception to follow at the Rainbow Center.
Co-sponsored with SUBOG, WRAAP (UConn’s 5 cultural centers) & Asian American Studies Institute

It should be an interesting talk… I am hoping to make it. And if you go, let me know your thoughts. Here, by the way, is the video from Choi’s appearance on Rachel Maddow:
