  • Our Finest Moment

    January 23, 2010

Earlier today, I said that sometimes I wonder if church people even read the Bible they claim to believe. I get frustrated at the way the church, frankly, fails to be that which Jesus calls it to be. Every time the church creates a barrier to peop… →

  • Sometimes I Wonder if Church People Even Read the Bible. Do you?

    January 23, 2010

Sometimes I Wonder if Church People Even Read the Bible. Do you? There is a serious crisis in the church today… this clip of Matt Chandler preaching at a conference last year captures the problem well. Thoughts? →

  • Ethics Applied: The Problem of Polygamy

    January 21, 2010

I have suggested before that there is a difference between soteriology (salvation) and ethics (read here). Both are important, but they are different. Ethics is about “right living” — how do we live as disciples of Jesus with integrity. This is n… →

  • Thrown Out of the Closet

    January 20, 2010

Eight months ago, I was thrown out of the closet. It is not that no one knew I was gay. That is not true. Both my two best friends knew and loved me anyway. A number of people I had worked with and been in ministry with knew too. Some who I never … →

  • His Name was Jason

    January 19, 2010

His name was Jason. Every once in a while you meet someone who changes your life. Sometimes it is a relationship that only lasts a moment. Other times it can last years. But in either case, their impact on you is lasting. I remember meeting him. I… →

FAITH AUTOPSY is a blog I started in 2010. It was part of my personal journey to learn to love God and like myself at the same time – by studying what the Bible really says (and does not say) about (and to) LGBTQ+ people like me.

In 2025, I wrote a book using the same name and revisiting many of these topics as well as my lived experience and the experiences of my friends and neighbors.

I have left all the original posts “as is” — a snapshot of my thoughts and feelings from an incredibly challenging time. I now pick up this project, creating updated and new snapshots. Life is a journey and we keep growing.
