Who would live as a “closeted Christian”? Ada Calhoun does… and I get it. Coming from a very liberal and progressive Jewish family (and therefore, social setting) explaining to many folks why I am an evangelical Christian who really believes Jesus is Lord and that the Bible is reliable is as complicated as explaining to evangelicals how you can be a gay follower of Jesus. It seems wrong… heretical… confusing… maybe even sinful… to both groups.
Calhoun writes an interesting and thought-provoking piece over on salon.com. I would love to hear your thoughts.
Here is what she writes:
It was Sunday morning in my scruffy Brooklyn neighborhood, and I was wearing a dress. Walking to the subway, I ran into a friend heading home from yoga class. She wore sweats.
“Where are you going so early all dressed up?” she asked, chuckling. “To church?”
We shared a laugh at the absurdity of a liberal New Yorker heading to worship.
The real joke? I totally was.
