I was recently given some really good advice from a friend about finding mentors.  He said you want someone who is older, seriously committed to the study and application of God’s word, and is only invested about 70% in the mentoring process.

Now the first two make perfect sense: older & committed to the Bible.

The 70% deal was a bit confusing at first.

But this friend explained that when someone is 100% invested they really lose objectivity.  You want someone who cares, but doesn’t care too much.  This gives you a freedom with this person that is pretty important.

Ahhhh.  That makes sense now.

So that is what I look for these days in mentors…
